Why Mindfulness is a Superpower?
There has been a lot written lately about the importance of mindfulness for happiness. Mindfulness can lead to you having more control over stressful situations, and it can also lead to you having more control over the things in your life. You don’t have to be a Buddhist monk to practice mindfulness! In fact, with some practices you can lead a happier, calmer life, even if it just comes in small steps.
What is the definition of mindful?
The first question we must ask ourselves is, what is the definition of mindful? Mindful is simply being attentive. Being aware of what is going on around you and in you and how you are feeling is called mindfulness. And awareness is a powerful tool. Without being mindful, there is no opportunity to take advantage of the amazing benefits that being mindful can offer.
What do we mean by mindfulness?
A second question we need to ask ourselves is this: what do we mean by mindfulness? Mindfulness can be defined as paying attention to your breath. Many people, myself included, can feel completely lost when their minds become consumed with other thoughts. It’s at these times that mindfulness can become an important tool. By paying attention to our breath, we are less likely to think about other thoughts or worry about getting caught up in our emotions.
Release negative energy
Thirdly, mindfulness can help us to release negative energy. During the day, we may find ourselves experiencing so much stress that we begin to focus on negative thoughts that can negatively affect us physically and mentally. Focusing your attention away from this negativity, therefore, can be one of the most powerful things we can do.
Let go of unnecessary tension
Mindfulness also enables you to let go of unnecessary tension. We may live in a world that is filled with tension. Daily events seem to happen overnight and stress build up. By connecting with your breath, you can let go of the tension that builds up in your body and allow yourself to experience the sense of calm.
Can lead to weight loss
Lastly, mindful eating can lead to weight loss. This is because your mindfulness will enable you to eat in a manner that helps keep your mind healthy. The more mindful you are of what you put into your mouth, the more aware you are of the nutrients within the foods you consume. When your mind is healthy and centered, you will notice that you are not tempted to snack on unhealthy foods. Instead, you will choose foods that can fuel your mind and keep it healthy.
While the above reasons explain why mindfulness is a superpower, there are even more that I can share. In my own life, my ability to keep my focus and awareness at all times has saved my life more than once. I have been able to sleep through the entire night when I was too afraid to do so before. I was able to get through work without any interruptions in order to finish what I needed to. I have been able to laugh in the face of danger and keep my head above water. Mindfulness has enabled me to make the most of every moment and turn them into the greatest days of my life.
